Easter Basket Assembly - 2008

JUNE 6-7
Grand Blanc High School

Faith United Church is thrilled to be part of our local RELAY FOR LIFE event this year. CHRISTINA SAVOIE is putting together a team for the 24-hour walk in support of cancer research and we're looking forward to a great time with others from our community.

Watch this space for updates regarding this project.

Faith United Church is located on Hill Road in southern Genesee County, Michigan. We see ourselves as part of a growing community that is made up of Mundy, Grand Blanc, and Flint Townships. This is because our church building is in Mundy Township, and the Grand Blanc School District, but we have a Flint address.  While our focus is on the community our church building is in, we have people who call Faith United Church home in Swartz Creek, Flushing, Clio, Burton, Davison, Durand, Mt. Morris, and Gaines.

The fact that our society is incredibly mobile, combined with our unique location, has eliminated the possibility of Faith United being a "neighborhood church." Our closest neighbors are Wendy's Restaurant, Home Depot and Dr. Sun, the Orthodontist! However, we still consider ourselves to be very much a part of a wonderful community.

Over the last couple of years those of us who currently make up Faith United Church have started to take our role in our community a lot more seriously. Like everyone else who makes up this community, we want it to be a decent place to live, a place where families can raise children and people can make a good living, a place where there are wholesome things to do and where people can live together in comfort. Faith United Church is committed to being a productive part of our community. We strongly believe that we should be good neighbors and involved in helping make our community better. With that in mind, we make our facilities available to various groups who are from our community, or are helping to make our community such a great place to be. We're also doing what we can to help those who have needs of one kind or another. Here are a few of the ways Faith United Church is involved in our community...

Faith United Church has been blessed by God with wonderful property and comfortable facilities. As a part of our community, we love to make these available to civic and community service groups who need a place to meet. We currently open our doors to the following:

Faith United Church is that Charter Organization for Boy Scout Troop 335In addition to these groups currently using our facility, we've also been glad to open our doors to a local Brownie Troop, the Grand Blanc Girls' Swim and Dive Team, a couple of Grand Blanc Little League Baseball teams, Genesys Hospice, a home school group, as well as companies providing training in the areas of: Fire Safety, Financial Planning, and Health Screening.

Civic and Community Service organizations who need a convenient place to gather are invited to contact us!

Faith United Church is blessed to be a Host Church for ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES of Georgia. Angel Food is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.

Cheri Lewis and Christina Savoie cleaning up after the April AngelFood pickup. The beauty of this ministry its simplicity. Families may purchase a medium-sized box of quality groceries for $30. Depending on what part of the country you are from, the retail value of the groceries is between $48 - $78. Orders are placed and prepaid once a month and then distributed on a given day to those families who purchased them. There is no income qualification and families may purchase as many boxes as they choose. Typically a box will feed a family of four for about a week.

EASTER BASKETS FOR FOSTER CHILDREN

Faith United Church was blessed once again this year to prepare Easter Baskets for Genesee County Foster Children. This project was carried out with KAREN BUNKER and our friends at THE CHILD ADVOCACY TEAM, as well as our local DOLLAR TREE STORES.

We are pleased to report that over 300 baskets were prepared and delivered to the Department of Human Services for distribution. They are in the hands of boys and girls all over Genesee County.

Thank you to EVERYONE who helped assemble the baskets. Special thanks to CALEB WOOD for helping to deliver them; and to BETH PERKINS, AUDREY WOOD, and TAMMIE MARTIN for their extra help with this project.

Through a wonderful partnership with THE CHILD ADVOCACY TEAM and our local DOLLAR TREE STORES, Faith United Church is thrilled to be part of a ministry to foster children and their families in Genesee County. It all began with a meeting between Pastor Steve and Attorney Karen Brunker of C.A.T. and has allowed Faith United to minister in a way that is well beyond our means and Christmas Party - 2007a source of tremendous blessing. In 2007 and 2008 Faith United Church worked with our partners to assemble and distribute over Easter Baskets and Christmas Stockings to Genesee County Foster Children. In all, we've been blessed to minister to somewhere around 1000 households. The projects were coordinated by C.A.T., and our Dollar Tree Stores collected the necessary toys and other items for Faith United Church to assemble in Easter Baskets and Christmas Stockings. They were then distributed to the children directly or through our friends at Catholic Charities and the Genesee County Department of Human Services.

Christmas Party - 2007As an added bonus, we were blessed to host a Christmas Party for about 200 of the children and their families in December, 2007. With some help from our friends at New Life Church of Grand Blanc, and the Scouts of Troop #335, it was a fantastic night! We are so grateful to the attorneys of The Child Advocacy Team and our local Dollar Tree Stores for letting us be part of this ministry!

Food Drop - May, 2007Come Worship With Us!
Through a partnership with our friends at CrossOver Downtown Outreach Ministries of Flint, Faith United Church is blessed to distribute food to those in need as resources become available. By splitting the cost of the food with CrossOver Food Drop - May, 2007Ministries, we are able to purchase a semi-truck load of food from THE FOOD BANK OF EASTERN MICHIGAN and distribute it to those in need through "Food Drops," in our parking lot at various times throughout the year. The Food Bank delivers the food to us on the specified day and, using sacks provided by our local KROGER STORE, every household receives 2 or 3 bags of groceries. In May, 2007 we were thrilled to distribute food to over 300 households, representing about 1000 people. We are currently raising the necessary funds to hold another Food Drop in the Spring of 2008.
