"Evangelism," is one of the more misunderstood words in the Christian
vocabulary. For many who are not yet Christians it brings up images of a
round-faced preacher shoving a 10-pound Bible in your face while screaming,
"repent!" For many who are Christians it reminds us of the boring classes
and training seminars we've endured over the years to "become more
evangelistic."
We
at Faith United Church are very pleased to announce that we're not doing ANY of
that!!! Faith United Church does NOT have a "program" for evangelism. As far as
we know, none of us has a 10-pound Bible either! Of course we want
everyone to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior -- it is simply that we believe
in a gentler, more authentic approach.
Evangelism is simply a word that describes what happens when someone who believes
God loves everyone shows that He does in everyday life. To put it another
way, we believe God loves YOU and everyone else in the area of Grand Blanc,
Mundy and Flint townships. Because of that and because we claim to be
fo
llowers of Jesus, we believe He wants us to show His love to everyone
within our community by helping those who need something, sharing the stuff
He has given us, and helping to make
this community better.
Jesus said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20)." With that in mind we're out to show everyone that God loves them and if there are those who want to know more about Him, we'll tell them!
